Цитадель представляет собой ядро Бендерского фортификационного комплекса. Это каменный замок в виде прямоугольной трапеции в плане, размерами 84×101×75×101 м, ориентированный по сторонам света. Если бы при разбивке строители вынесли башню №4 на 10 м северо-восточнее от существующего положения, то план приобрел бы вид правильного прямоугольника.Цитадель укреплена четырьмя квадратными однотипными башнями, расположенными по центру четырех куртин, и тремя равными в диаметре (12 м), круглыми башнями, возведенными по углам. From February 11 to March 23, the year 2019, employees of the SRL “Archeology” of the Transnistrian State University named after T. G. Shevchenko conducted research on the lower tier of the Southeast tower of the citadel of Bendery Fortress. By the beginning of the excavation, the lower tier was filled almost to the level of the modern entrance from the courtyard side.
